Social Inclusion was the theme for the inaugural NUS Global Citizen Conference. The five-day conference focused on five topics which were Refugees, Mental Health, Poverty, Gender Equality and Migrant Workers. Minister for Social and Family Development Mr. Tan Chuan Jin graced the opening ceremony and sat in a panel discussion with our other distinguished guests, Dr. June Goh (President of Singapore Council of Women's Organisations), Sachitra Chitrakar
(Deputy Country Director at Oxfam International in Afghanistan) and Dr. Tan Lai Yong (Director of Outreach & Community Engagement in College of Alice & Peter Tan).
Over the next few days, participants participated in discussion groups with invited NGOs and speakers to look into issues of global concern. Each team consisted of undergraduates from various nations and disciplines, each contributing their unique and personal experiences and ideas to the discussion. They also had the chance to go on a theme related tour to get a ground sensing of the issues brought forth during the discussions.
On the final day, participants presented their findings and had a meaningful and interactive cross discussion between each team.
